This term was a lot of trial and error, I made a lot of nature posts this term and really focused on nature and insects. For most of my paintings I asked for my peers input to see if people thought I should add and make adjustments to my paintings. My beach landscape picture took most of the term and most of my time. And was time consuming and took a lot of patience.

In February we did Portraits, at first we went through tutorials to make sure we had feature proportions correct. I did an eye sketch in led pencil, and did shading to make it look as realistic as possible. Then, I did a eye sketch in colored pencil and used different values in the colors to make the drawing seem more 3d and realistic. My portrait took me a week and a half to do and with critic from the class and peers. I made sure my portrait was ready and proportional. After sketching my portrait I added pink in the background to really make the image standout and pop.
I've done multiple pieces in and out of school since the last blog post. The boundary piece isn't complete yet because I spent a lot of my time on the deer painting. The deer painting I've been working on since the last blog post because I really wanted to take my time on it. The boundary piece is the cat in the window the piece is incomplete but will continue working on it. It shows the inside and outside of the cats world from the window. I will continue to take my time on my pieces and put forth 100% effort.
During this time I tried some bitec and some more canvas painting, I have learned that painting with acrylic is the thing I enjoy most and am most comfortable with. The bitec the only piece I was completely satisfied with was the rose I created. I am creating new pieces as time goes on, I recently sketched out my next painting which is a deer in a snowy forest. My current pieces have taught me to go a bit slower with my work to really get the detail and precision I want.
This time I used a different skill, the gradient image that you see was me taking a new attempt at using a kitchen sponge to bland all the colors together. I wet a kitchen sponge and cut it and mix your paints together and you bounce it on the canvas to get this really firm texture. That is a unfinished art piece but will show it in my next blog post. A Lot of the pieces I did this time were me developing art skills, and learning perspective and taking risks. Which I will continue to do as long as I am creating art.
As I reflect on my work from last year, I notice I’ve really grown as an artist and my art has somewhat matured. This year i’ve really learned to create my OWN art and make it reflect who I am as an artist. For a pottery project, I made a skull and made it as detailed as possible by adding acrylic paint instead of glaze, then further creating a jeweled crown with hot glue and gems. With the blind contour I learned, that you learn basic shapes and to really take your time and focus on the muse or object of what you’re drawing. As we go through the different subjects I learn, what I love to draw and continue to grow.
During the negative space project, I went through multiple ideas about what do. So then I finally made a decision that I would do something that showed self expression. On my negative space I filled it with maps that I ripped out of map books. For my biggest negative space I made the map of Norfolk the biggest piece because that it where I live. And as I made more space I chose towns and such that mean a lot to me or have been apart of my life. At the end I asked for a critique because I didn’t know whether or not to color in the chair or the positive space but went against it because it would probably clash with the map colors. For the Bee hive project we drew 7 things that showed who we are and what makes us who we are, this was more of a personal thought to draw things that represent me. I think I struggled to choose one element that I wanted and wasn't organized with my drawings but that's something I will learn over the course of the year. My last project we did was the Still Life project was when we took paper bags and made them wet to make them have character. Drawing this was sort of easy for me but I did learn and make progress about shading and making reflections with charcoal pencil. The projects so far have been pretty easy and I have gotten them done quite fluently. But I am definitely up for more challenging projects in the future of this year.
For this unit we were given prompts to draw pictures for, for every day of the week. The first day, the prompt was nuts and bolts so I sketched actual nuts and bolts. Day 2 the prompt was "things that turn on and off" and the first thing that came to mind was peoples emotions and then I drew a girl with a switch to turn her emotions on and off. The third day was my worst day to draw I think because the only thing I thought of for industrial was money and wealth with agriculture. The fourth day was things that turn so I drew the blue, red and white pole outside a barber shop to draw because it was different than everyone else. For the final day we had to combine 2-3 of the prompts into one picture and one picture that i didn't do was nature which I put into the final picture I painted. My final piece was a perfect picture for my creativity. I combined things that turn with nature to make my final piece as you can tell by the globe as the center on a flower.
jis time around we did our own version of Wayne Thiebaud's pop art of food. He's known for drawing pop art of food in a three-dimensional way. I drew a cupcake used a lot of layering of the oil pastels. For the darker dimensions in the ridges I contrasted colors and blended.
