I started Art in freshman year so I understand the Artistic Behaviors very well. During the past 4 years I’ve been able to show my artistic behaviors I believe very well. My favorite unit has always been acrylic, I can’t explain why. I just enjoy painting a lot more than drawing. I think I also grew and learned most from the acrylic unit because I kept being able to put forth the most effort and seeing growth in the development of my work as years went on. I wouldn’t change anything in the class. This was my favorite class out of all my classes to say the least. I would keep everything exactly the way it is. My favorite piece that I am most proud of is my ceiling tile, mainly because not only does it explain who I am, it’s the only piece I think I never truly felt I was going to give up. Which was a very big thing for me. I wouldn’t change a thing in this course. Never change Mrs. Haggerty!

This month I have been working on my own pieces at home. I have done 2 pieces at home on canvas with acrylic. I didn't have any help from any peers at school but I asked the people I live with for their advice on the pieces. I wanted to try 2 different styles of painting. The butterfly painting is just a basic realistic from mind painting. I didn't use any references I just used it from memory of what butterflies look like. The second piece is a door frame with vines and a rustic teal background with a touch of red. The reason it's so smudged is because it was to express the emotion of my brain. I have doors to walk through but right now everything is so unknown and "blurry".
In January I only made one piece because I took my time and planned my colors correctly. The background was originally blue but I thought it blended too much with the plants. I wanted to make it more neat but I also like that it's not that neat. I am still not complete with the piece because I do take my time on my pieces. The final picture is where I am at right now in the process. I plan to continue this to make it more neat and structured.
This month I didn't do a lot of pieces because as an artist I feel that my work is best shown when I take my time and put in as much detail as possible. I was absent a few times with month so a lot of pieces didn't get done. But because I take my time on each piece I do I usually only get in 2-3 pieces. The first piece I did was a sketch of flowers, I was just doodling roses but I actually enjoyed the way it looked. The next piece that I did was the landscape of a house during the Christmas time. I was in a festive spirit and thought of painting this piece. I asked a lot of my peers for help and they helped me think of adding the multi colored lights around the house. My last piece in December I painted the girls portrait. This wasn't based of a model or reference it was all out of memory of what the human face looks like. But I gave some features of what I looked like as well. I tried my best to make it look as real as possible by adding values and different skin tones to the skin and having the hair blended from the roots down.
For most of November I was absent. I had started some pieces and took photos with a camera for inspiration for future pieces. The blue gradient tree landscape was one of my projects that I did. I based it on blue scheme because winter reminds me of blues and whites because of the gloomy and snowy scenery. My future piece is going to be a house alongside a road with it decorated in lights and snow and having the tree in the living room through the window. Then the photo taken is a inspiration for a future piece that I would like to recreate it.
This unit I did a variety of different projects. I painted, did watercolor and I did pottery. For watercolor my piece I did multiple steps. I did modified contour of different images of myself that I combined into one giant photo. I then traced it on the white board onto a giant piece of paper. Then I added up water coloring it. I did pottery next and simply made 2 pinch pot bowls. When I was waiting for the pots to dry and so I could smooth it out best as possible. I made a fall themed painting of a pumpkin and a bucket of apples. I used different values on the bucket and pumpkin to make it seem more real. I asked my peers for help on whether or not I should highlight parts of the pumpkin and they said yes. So I did. I think it helped my painting a lot.
Some of my pictures wouldn't flip. But, starting the year off with our 6 images with objects from observation with different backgrounds, in different values etc. My object was an apple. I first drew the apples in different situations. An apple in someone's hand, an apple core, in a fruit basket with other fruits and an apple pie. These different stages of this object reflects the purpose behind this assignment to get an idea of an object at different moments maybe not seen by the eye. But with a twist! I made the drawings with pencil and shaded them to be realistic, then I painted the backgrounds with a solid background that is acrylic and added dots to make them all matching and corresponding.
The year is coming to an end and this year I really experienced the freedom and loved creating bonds with everyone in the class and being able to create new art. I really could branch out and do what I wanted compared to last year. I felt that I was able to ask everyone what to do next, asking for help and being able to let my creativity take flight. I also did a mural this year for a teacher that is retiring because her room doesn't have a window so she asked me to do a mural of a "fake" window so it would bring some life to her room. That is also one thing I've learned this year is that I can leave my mark on the school and embrace my passion as well.
In June we really branched out once the seniors left and we could do a lot more. We did tie dye for a good week and really did try out best to try new things. In June I felt as though we also had a lot of creativity and no limits so I really felt that my art really soared.
During late April and beginning of may we did tape murals as a group. we did 4 separate landscapes and it took a lot of coordinating and communication. We talked about what colors to use for each landscape and what theme to have for each section. There's was lots of coordination and routine to this when choosing a way to link them. We focused so much on detail we didn't have a road yet linking the four landscapes.
