In art we did a Trompe l'oeil where we did a picture side by side and tried to do reflect it like a mirror. In the picture the lighting is different than the lighting where I originally drew it so the reflections are different. Plus I made my own adjustment to the picture by instead of the string resting on the key I made the string go in the key hole like the string ran through the key. Even though the images are different I feel like my best reflection was the vanilla colored shell to the far right of the paper.

In the Embroidery unit I learned about Faith Ringgold and how she used quilting and stitching in her art to make abstract pieces. Above is my embroidery sampler and I made an elephant used maybe 4 stitches at most not all I was very good at but tried my best. I would have to say putting the embroidery floss through the needle was the most difficult thing to do. And the hoop sizing is slighting difficult. Embroidery wasn’t my favorite unit by any means but it was an interesting thing to learn.
During The printmaking unit I there was a lot of trial and error with printing. My first image I figured out that I printed my numbers backwards but thought it was cool in a learning artists way. My final project it took a lot of time trying to the ink to stay wet to print. I had many trials and errors with carving and ink.
During the pottery unit in November. We composed many art skills such as creating your own as in making what you want and taking risks, when I made my angel i took a risk i thought it was going to break and not come out as well as it did, but it came out very well to my surprise. Clay is formed from erosion of rocks silicates. to us clay to make pottery you must need the following: a placemat, water/sponge, needle tool, and the clay itself. The clay workability depends in plasticity which is affected by the amount of moisture in the clay. There are certain stages in a potteries progress to being finished. It starts with wet lay with it being most workable and being able to be molded, leather hard is when it can't be molded anymore but you can attach with scoring and slip, and bone dry. Then it is fired in the kiln and it becomes bisque meaning it is no longer clay. Finally, your piece can be glazed and you are complete. However there are rules to pottery making. These rules are: 1) soft clay cannot be attached to hard clay 2) pieces of clay must be scored with a needle or brush and painted with slip to be "glued" together 3) clay must not be thicker than one inch and must be hollow for air to escape. 4) unnatural bends will result in cracks when drying. 5) uncovered clay is drying clay - so keep it covered! and finally 5) clay shrinks when it dries. Over all it sounds like a lot in the process but once you start doing it it's a lot of fun and is quite simple. I really enjoyed the pottery unit.
The landscapeCredit line for Image Julia Bradford Huntington James Fund I hear the wind whistling and the rumble of the thunder and the stillness of the mountains being cemented and weighed down of absolute stillness. I smell the damp ground and rock of the musky and harsh air and the freshness of still water settling in the nearby stream I need the sun and the heat of brightness I am going to look upon the mountains to guide to a better view I feel dull in black and white no character and no boldness to it I want the fog to rise and color to abrupt from the painted sky Dear Friend, I am writing to you from The Qing Dynasty, it's dull in here it's subtle and quiet. I want to escape to something brighter and better please erase me and cut me out to a better view a better place. PortraitName- Clarissa Bartlett Porter
Birthday May 13th 1990 Job a housekeeper and stay at home mom Hobbies- gardens and cleans while husband is out on business What are you doing today?- Picking the strawberries from the garden Where are you? -Providence RI Who is with you?- My son and my father I hear the baby crying of hunger and deprived attention I smell the starchy water from cooking pasta to attend to my child's needs I love when i can have a break and rest my two aching feet I have seen the struggles of the motherhood and the childhood I want my husband to come home our boys first birthday and the expectation of the next I feel achy and sleep deprived and quietly driven My landscape is acrylic paint. I originally had a high pigmented sky that was a bright turquoise but I had a hard time finding a matching color so improvised and made the sky darker and made the foreground brighter than it was in the original picture. One of my problems i was facing was the texture of the bushes in leaves and the dimensions. So solve this issues instead of using brush strokes i bounced and padded my brush to make it look bushy and full. I think if I make another landscape with acrylic paint I will try ore textures and more detail and different color palettes.
We used pen and ink to make Illuminated letters. My illuminated letter I used a cooler color scheme such as purples, blues and greens. Then I added different warm tones to make the letter pop. To make this letter I chose the letter "S" because its the starting letter of my name and then used tribal prints and feathers with Peacock textures to describe me.
Learning blind contour is good to learn for drawing because it shows you theres no limits that what you see can be transferred on paper without looking. While drawing the wrinkles on my hand i learned what the depth and perspective of your hand can look like and gives it an effect of 3 dimensional concept.
Drawing on the right side of the brain there are dominants of each side of the brain. the right side of the brain dominates in Visual, perceptual, holistic, non-linear and intuitive. drawing on the left side of the brain is dominates on your language, verbal, sequential, step-by-step, numbers, symbols and analytic.
Drawing upside was easier because you didn't know what you were drawing so you couldn't mentally strain yourself from drawing. When drawing hands that folded together you run into issues with shadowing and knowing what fingers belong to which hand.
